In an effort to respond to needs expressed by both users and producers of data and information in Lebanon, the Population and Development Strategies (PDS) Project – a joint collaboration between UNFPA and the Ministry of Social Affairs – has launched an initiative aiming at the establishment of a National Population and Development Web-based Databank. At the inception of this unique initiative, the PDS project had held a consultative meeting in September 2007 among a number of partners and stakeholders to discuss the process, methodology and expected outcomes. After the completion of the first two phases of implementation, and in line with its commitment to adopting a participatory approach all throughout the various stages of development of the databank, the PDS project organized a Technical Meeting with relevant partners and stakeholders on Thursday 24th of July 2008 at the Holiday Inn -Dunes Hotel in Beirut under the patronage of his Excellency, Dr. Mario Aoun Minister of Social Affairs. This technical meeting aimed at presenting the results of the first and second phases of implementation of the project, and at discussing the suggested structure of the web-based databank.
Participants to the meeting included representatives from Ministries, Public and Academic Institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations. |
